Welcome to An Experimentalist. The blog where asking questions is encouraged. My name is Sylvia but my friends call me Sisi. I finished my PhD in Epigenetics back in 2021 at the University of Edinburgh. I’m now working as a postdoctoral researcher trying to determine if we can use a specific modification of the DNA as a biomarker of exposure to air pollution. The topic is fascinating and I would like to use this space to delve deeper into the existing literature. But that is not all that you will find on this blog.
I am curious to understand how to use my chaotic, constantly-on brain to function in the community I have chosen for myself and in the ones I have not chosen. I struggle with taking action, expressing myself and communicating with others which unfortunately is interfering with my work. I am easily distracted and easily absorbed in anything I find interesting. You will probably notice that more when you start to explore the blog.
But it’s not all bad. My active brain and active imagination means I’m constantly curious and constantly willing to learn new things. And most of all, I love to share what I know with other people. And because when I sometimes share my random knowledge people tend to feel intimidated, I’ve decided to put what I learn in a blog so that you, my dear reader, can take it in at your own leisure.
I’m setting it out before you go any further. This is going to be chaotic. You might find yourself lost at times, but don’t feel bad. I’m lost all the time. I will try to categorise my chaos for you but I can’t make any promises. I can’t even promise it’s all going to be fun. This is just the way I am.
